Campaign Aims
What we're calling on the CQC to do
We call on the Care Quality Commission to rethink its policy and guidance for people with severe learning disabilities and/or autism, and to recognise both existing and proposed congregate care and accommodation settings as a valid, respected choice.

A settled community
Small collections of homes and flats on a single site, with shared spaces for education, leisure and everyday life.
Meaningful activity
Many communities offer stimulating employment, crafts and workshops tailored to residents’ abilities and interests.
Peace of mind for families
Often set in rural locations on the edge of towns, giving residents space and families confidence in continuity of care.
The Threat
What choice is being denied?
Congregate settings are a type of residential provision that often have small collections of homes and flats within a single site. There is usually some shared communal facilities for education, entertainment, and leisure.
Typically, these communities are in more rural settings, on the edge of towns and cities, and under current policy, they’re at risk of closure.
